ABOUT

Scott Hughes

MD and Chief Engineer

Engineering runs in my blood, my grandfather, father, his brother, and my brother are all engineers. I personally studied Mechanical and Electrical Engineering to HNC level, and completed a tool making apprenticeship before branching out into the world to initially become a designer, before progressing on to a Projects Engineer, and then a Project Manager and Senior Project Manager leading teams of over 60 people. I therefore found myself further away from the detail and engineering than I would have liked, as well as extreme levels of pressure and stress.

Along the way I have kept my hand in building modern sprint and then race cars, until a few years ago my father introduced me to the VSCC and Vintage Race Cars allowing a double drive in his Riley 9, wow I didn't realise how much fun it could be, or how well engineered the Riley's were. My interest led to the opportunity to build my current Riley 9 Brooklands Special (Pictured Above) thanks to funding and help from my father, and help with the body from Brooklands Bodycraft.

In Jan 2020 I gave up my full time job as a Senior PM to pour all of my time and effort into creating a business around my passion for Engineering, Automobiles, and Racing with the creation of Brooklands Autocraft Ltd, dedicated to keeping these cars alive and well for the next generation to appreciate.

In March 2021 we took a major step and moved into a 2000 Sq/ft unit, and have since moved again into a bigger 3500 sq/ft unit with separate machine shop and engine building clean room.

Josh Kendrick - Engineer

Josh joined the team late in 2021, and has become a key part of the business. He has a Master's Degree in Automotive Engineering, and has grown up around classic cars as his father is a car nut having a large collection of cars, Josh himself owns a midget he is building for sprints, and he is also a trained MOT tester. He has quickly adapted to working on vintage cars and likes the additional engineering and machining work required to make new parts. During his degree he spent considerable time working in the formula student team, designing many of the key parts of the car.

Harry Painter - Engineer

Harry, who joined us Nov 2022, has grown up around special cars with his grandfather collecting many from Aston Martin's to Supercharged MG's leading to Harry and his father racing two methanal supercharged MG's, Harry and his father also own and prepare single seater race cars including a Cooper 500 and Brabham. Its fair to say Harry knows a thing or two about vintage cars, and he is a real asset to the team.

Lewis Hughes - Training Engineer

My Son has joined our team and will be learning from the team around him, he has an OCD work ethic which works will with the levels of quality we aspire to..
